Runescape publisher Jagex's publishing wing has picked up a promising indie game for their Jagex Partners label, making Melvor Idle an indie no more. The idler game, similar to RS Gold games such as Clicker Heroes or Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms, released on Steam last year and wears its influences from Jagex's mainstay Runescape with pride.
Melvor Idle is a detailed multi-track idle video game that seeks to reimagine "the fundamental elements from the RuneScape franchise in a manner to be played in a casual manner," says the publisher. It's a fairly well-designed idle game with a variety of options to design and grow, aswell being a focus on avoiding games that have prestige mechanics that need a restart.
Jagex evidently became aware of the game in the early part of 2020, and a lot of the company's employees were fans of it after its officially Steam launch in October of that year. As you'd expect, the company is quite pleased to have a connection with the designers of one of their favorite games. "Being in a position to collaborate alongside Jagex directly on this project has been a dream of a lifetime," said Brendan Malcolm, the solo creator who is behind Melvor Idle Studio Games by Malcs.
Malcolm posted a long question and answer to Melvor Idle's Reddit community, which made it clear that he'd retain complete creative control in the future as well as stating that Melvor Idle's single-purchase monetization model wouldn't change. Jagex has stated that it was the only company with "no desire" to alter anything in Melvor Idle. The publishing agreement will see Jagex handle the marketing, localisation, tech support, and QA of Melvor Idle.
You can test Melvor Idle for free on its official website and then buy it on Steam. I've had it open during the process of writing this piece and I'm already good at chopping down trees. It's a great time to be a old School RuneScape player right now, as The Shattered Relics league is officially launched! This is a brand new game mode for players to buy osrs gold online explore, using Ironman rules that prevent players from trading and partaking in PvP.
