The Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G (Review) was a good upgrade over the Reno 6 Pro (Review) as it switched to a flat display, got stereo speakers and had improved camera sensors, all packaged in a premium design with a fancy notification LED strip around the camera module. Now, Oppo has launched its Reno 8 Pro 5G in India, along with the Reno 8 5G. It boasts of an Nulls Clash overhauled design, similar cameras but with a few minor updates, and it gets a newer processor.

The Reno 8 Pro 5G has been launched at Rs. 35,990, and the Reno 8 5G will be available for Rs. 23,990. Let's see how it fares as a premium offering in this segment.

Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G design

The Reno 8 Pro 5G looks very similar to its predecessor but has a few minor changes that are worth noting. It is made out of metal and glass, and has a glass back instead of a plastic one on the Reno 7 Pro 5G. This makes the phone feel more premium in hand than its predecessor, which was already one of the best looking phones in the market right now. The glass back also means that it is very slippery though, so you have to be extra careful when handling this phone as dropping it might result in a dent or two on the back glass panel itself. The frame is made out of metal and has chamfered edges running around it for better grip and feel while using the device with one hand or two hands respectively. Overall, we really liked how Oppo executed this design change over last year's model and we think they've done a good job overall with this new design language they've adopted over last year's model as well as their other devices like the Find X (Review).

The front of the device houses an edge-to-edge 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with thin bezels all around it. It is a tall display, but it doesn't feel that way in hand and you can easily use it with one hand. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6, which is a welcome change over last year's model as the Reno 7 Pro 5G had Gorilla Glass 5 instead of Gorilla Glass 6. The glass on the front also has a 2.5D curved glass, which adds to the premium feel of the device.

The back contains a dual camera setup with a 16+5MP primary camera and an 8MP secondary camera for depth sensing, along with an LED flash unit on top of them. The fingerprint scanner sits below this setup at the middle and is accompanied by Oppo's branding at the bottom along with its logo. At the top lies a very small circular protrusion housing the secondary microphone for better noise cancellation during video recording as well as voice calls. The left side of the device houses all its physical buttons on this side - there are volume rockers and power button here along with an ejectable SIM tray that you can use to insert two Nano-SIM cards or one Nano-SIM card plus one microSD card (up to 256GB) into this device.
