What is Bovine Gelatin?
It is a protein derivative obtained from bovine skin, bones, and connective tissues through the partial hydrolysis of collagen. As collagen breaks down, it forms a colorless, flavorless, water-soluble substance known as gelatin. Bovine refers to cattle. So bovine gelatin comes specifically from cattle.
Production Process
The production process of it involves several key steps:
Pre-treatment - The raw Bovine Gelatin materials such as bovine hides and bones are cleaned and degreased using alkaline solutions to remove any dirt, fat or other contaminants.
Acid Treatment - The cleaned raw materials are treated with dilute acid solutions, usually hydrochloric or sulfuric acid. This helps extract the collagen fibers.
Extraction - The acid-treated material is then extracted using hot water. Extraction takes place over several cycles to remove all the collagen.
