What are SSL Certificates?
A Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate is a digital document that authenticates a website's identity and enables an encrypted connection. SSL certificates establish an identity-verified HTTPS connection between a client's browser and a server. When a user browses to a website that has an SSL certificate installed, the site address begins with "HTTPS" instead of "HTTP" and usually includes a small lock icon in the browser's address bar.

Types of SSL Certificates
There are three main types of SSL certificates:

Domain Validated (DV) Certificates
SSL Certificates verify that the certificate applicant controls the domain requested in the certificate. They are the most basic and lowest cost SSL certificate option but only provide domain-level validation.

Organization Validated (OV) Certificates
OV certificates provide stronger validation than DV by verifying business registrations and physical addresses of the organization requesting the certificate. This higher level of validation establishes greater user trust.
